Brian Greenley

After being diagnosed with bowel cancer in 2010, Brian left his job at Price Waterhouse to focus on his treatment.

Although his cancer moved to Stage IV, and he was given only a 10% chance of survival, he received the all-clear in 2013. Throughout his treatment Brian received letters from a friend, written in the hope they would cheer him up.

This correspondence inspired him to keep a diary throughout his illness, as well as hosting a blog to let others know how he was getting on.

In 2016 he attended an Arvon writing course and, using his diaries as the basis for his work, he found that not only did he enjoy the writing process but that he was quite good at it, too. Inspired by his own experience of receiving letters, Brian set up the campaign From Me to You with Alison Hitchcock, the writer of those original letters.

Now celebrating its fifth anniversary, From Me to You encourages people to write letters to friends, family and strangers who are suffering from cancer; keeping them connected at a time they feel most disconnected.
